Design Thinking: A Human-Centered Approach to Innovation
In order to succeed, innovation must solve a human need. Design thinking
is a proven innovation process that that combines empathy, technical feasibility,
and business strategy. In this workshop, Matt Davis and Brent Dixon will use
hands-on projects and real-world examples to guide you through the seven steps
of human centered design and give you the tools you need to inspire and execute
ideas at your own credit union.
Opening General Session:

your credit union is to be seen as more than a mere commodity provider, you will

Breakout: Leadership Skills that Get Results
All too often, we are promoted into leadership
positions because of tactical knowledge and skills, not leadership savvy.
Join Claudine Oriani as she provides tips that will help you improve your
effectiveness
as a team or group leader, including:
- The difference between managing and leadership
- Connecting others to your mission and strategic intent
- Getting beyond micro-management and into delegation

Breakout: To Be Announced
We're confirming one more option--a hot
topic you won't want to miss!
General Session:
Cafe Conversations
Conference attendees will be invited before
the conference and on site to submit topics for discussion in a café type
atmosphere. During the session, the person submitting the topic will
engage the group at his or her table on a discussion of the issue and
maintain notes on the topic. At the halfway point of the session, participants
will be invited to switch tables and engage in a new discussion. Notes on
all discussions will be shared with conference attendees after the conference,
including actual forms, reports, policies, and formulas you can use at
your credit union. Don't miss out on this session--it was very popular
in 2009!
General Session:
Youthful Products for a Younger Membership
Everyone
knows that adding younger members make sense for credit unions, but
knowing is only
half
the battle.
What
do they actually want from their financial institutions? Brent
Dixon, The Filene Research Institute’s Young Adult Advisor, dissects
the mind of the youthful consumer and details the products, services,
and recruiting strategies credit unions can use to grab them. Tune
in for a discussion on youth-specific products Filene’s 30 Under
30 group designed specifically for their peers.
General Session: Best Practices Showcase

will
Twitter become a primary member communication tool? Will artificial intelligence "bots" manage
and trade funds? Will cable companies' adoption of IPTV (Internet Protocol
TV) allow CUs to have their own low-cost cable channel? Will CU debit cards
contain health care information? Will mobile phones become the new "wallet"?

Breakout: Approaching Decision Makers for Favorable Results
Whether you’re responsible for marketing,
public relations or business development, you will continue to
face that inevitable day when you have to approach “the
powers that be” with your ever-so-incredible, albeit slightly-out-of-the-ordinary
idea or request. For the extroverted and highly persuasive, approaching
a decision maker is a walk in the park. But for others, it
could be like being chased in the jungle by a jaguar.
Ultimately, we all have a common interest.
When you need an answer from “the powers that be,” you need
to know what it takes to get a “yes.”In this
session, Felicia Pope will teach you just that. See you there!
Breakout: What a Trip! A Tour of Mad City (Money)
Join Kym Moore from High Plains Federal Credit
Union’s show-and-tell of Mad City MoneyTM, impacting
middle-to-high school students and their families. See how to get parent involvement,
business and
community partners with this “how-to” presentation and description
of best practices for the Mad City Money simulation game
Breakout: Advancing Relationships After High School
Every credit union is working hard to lower the average age of their membership. For many, this has been an interesting challenge. Credit unions begin relationships with young people in high school or in college, but are not sure what happens next. This interactive session will discuss ways to build those relationships as young members transition through different life stages, and will cover the importance attracting, hiring and retaining younger employees as it is vital for credit unions to focus internally as well as externally.
General Session: Youth Focus Group (...back by popular demand!)
The popular Youth Focus Group session
returns! Gain insight from students in the St. Louis area whose set curriculum
includes a personal finance course as a requirement for graduation. They’ll
share what resonates with them and what does not, what catches and keeps
their attention and what doesn’t. This session will give you a fresh
look at what you can and should be doing when presenting or marketing to
youth in your field of membership..
